Ravel wrote ‘Ma Mère L’Oye’ as a 5 piece piano duet between 1908 and 1910 for both children of a befriended couple and orchestrated the work in 1911. It is partly based on the fairy tails of ‘Mother Goose’ and subtitled ‘Cinq pièces enfantines’.
